The purpose of my work is to create emotions that reflect what impact our society, as a whole, has on our surroundings resulting in urban decay, death and rebirth. In every city and country there is evidence of a past that once prevailed and gave birth to a new revolution. Everything that rises also falls into a path of destruction. Architecture, nature, social and political changes evolve and sometimes devolve.
My experiences as a person who identifies with boarder cities of Detroit and Harlingen are directly related to these ideas. Painting allows me to create the spaces I need in order to provoke a self-reflective viewing. Once we accept the things we cannot change only then can we progress to discovering environment, our relationships and ourselves. My artwork attempts to conjure emotions within the viewer that examine the boundaries of life and death.
